Not automatically. Indian citizens are not on Kuwait's standard eVisa list, but you can still apply online if you hold a valid US, UK or Schengen visa, or a residence permit from a GCC country, the US, the UK or a Schengen state.

Important visa rule for Indian citizens

If you do not fit that group, you normally apply at a Kuwaiti embassy or consulate before you travel. A visa on arrival is generally limited to Indians who live in a GCC country.

Kuwait eVisa for Indian citizens: who is eligible

Eligibility follows the nationality in your passport, not where you live. A travel blog's list of the 53 standard eVisa countries does not include India. The same blog says Indians can still use the portal if they hold a valid residence permit in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar or Oman.

A Wikipedia summary of the Ministry of Interior rules adds a wider condition. Citizens of most countries with a valid Schengen, UK or US tourist visa can apply for a simplified eVisa. So can holders of a residence permit from a GCC state, a Schengen state, the UK or the US. The supporting document must be valid for at least six months when you apply.

Older Wikipedia pages mention a three-month rule for GCC permits and say the permit holder's sponsor must travel along. Because of this conflict, check the portal's current wording before you pay. You can compare other nationalities on our Kuwait visa eligible countries page.

Passport type and other blockers

  • Diplomatic and official passports: Wikipedia lists India among countries whose diplomatic, official and service passport holders can enter for 30 days without a visa. Confirm this with the Kuwaiti authorities before relying on it.
  • Israeli stamps: Kuwait refuses anyone whose passport shows travel to Israel. UK government advice says such a passport may be refused a visa or entry.
  • Place of birth: UK advice and a Swiss travel-club page say passports showing birth in Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, Sudan, Syria or Yemen cannot get a visa on arrival. If your passport shows one of these, ask the consulate before you book.

Documents commonly needed

For the eVisa you need your passport details, a scan of the photo page and a copy of your supporting visa or residence permit. You also need an email address, a payment card and an address in Kuwait. Our Kuwait visa documents guide explains each item.

For a consulate application, private guides list the passport, photos, signed forms, a hotel booking and a cover letter. Some also mention a sponsor's documents. These lists vary, so ask the consulate for its own current list.

UK government advice says border officers may ask for a return or onward ticket and proof of accommodation. Carry both.

eVisa vs visa on arrival vs consulate visa

Route Suits you if When you know the result Key conditions
eVisa (conditional) You hold a US, UK or Schengen visa, or a qualifying residence permit Before departure, by email Supporting document valid at least six months. Details must match the passport.
Visa on arrival You live in a GCC country At the border Residence permit valid six months or more, according to reports from August 2025. Not for Indians living in India.
Consulate or embassy visa You live in India with none of the above Before departure, after the mission processes it Apply in Mumbai or New Delhi. A sponsor or invitation may be requested.

The practical rule is simple. Do not fly hoping for a visa on arrival unless you hold a GCC residence permit.

Application steps

If you qualify for the eVisa

  1. Check that your passport has at least six months left and no Israeli stamps.
  2. Check that your US, UK, Schengen visa or residence permit is valid for at least six months.
  3. Type kuwaitvisa.moi.gov.kw into your browser yourself, since look-alike sites exist.
  4. Create an account, enter your details exactly as in the passport, and upload your documents.
  5. Pay, then save the approval email and print the visa.

If you want help with the form, our Kuwait visa application service is a private assistance option. You can follow your case on the visa status check page.

If you apply through the consulate

  1. Contact the Kuwaiti Consulate General in Mumbai or the Embassy in New Delhi and ask for the current list of documents.
  2. Prepare the documents, including any sponsor papers they request.
  3. Submit the application and follow their instructions for collecting the passport.

Validity, stay period and entry window

Sources conflict. Wikipedia and a travel blog say each eVisa stay is limited to 30 days, and the eVisa itself may be valid for up to a year. Several private guides say 90 days. One private guide says the consulate's visit visa allows 30 days after entry, with entry required within 90 days.

I could not confirm an official entry window. Use the dates printed on your approved visa and the official portal. A Kuwaiti embassy page for Austrian travellers says tourist visa holders may not work in Kuwait. The same applies to any visit visa.

Fees and processing time

Private sites quote very different fees. Some say about 3 KWD for the eVisa, one says 10 KWD per month of stay, and others quote far higher consulate fees. None of these figures is confirmed by an official page I could open.

Processing time is also unverified. Some private sites say one to three working days online and about a week at a consulate. Apply early and check our Kuwait visa fees page for current details.

If the eVisa is not available or is refused

Switch to the consulate route, or ask your sponsor in Kuwait about a visit visa. A Kuwaiti embassy page for Austrian applicants says that a mismatch between the form and the passport makes the application void. If that happens, correct the data and apply again.

Our Kuwait visa rejection guide covers common causes. Never pay anyone who promises a visa without checking your documents.

Contacts for Indian travellers

Kuwait's authorities set the entry rules, so the consulate or embassy has the final word. Kuwait also has an embassy in New Delhi. Confirm hours and appointment rules before you visit.

Common mistakes

  • Flying without a visa because a blog said "visa on arrival".
  • Applying for the eVisa without a qualifying visa or residence permit.
  • Supporting documents with under six months of validity.
  • Passport with under six months left.
  • Entering a name or date that differs from the passport.
  • Paying a look-alike website.
  • Planning to work on a visit visa.

Before you fly

  • Approved visa, printed and saved on your phone
  • Passport valid six months or more, with no Israeli stamps
  • Return or onward ticket and proof of accommodation
  • Airline flight status checked within 24 hours, because reports from September 2026 describe delays and restricted airspace
